Response to COVID-19 / Emergency Fund
Read here about Roca’s response to COVID 19 and racial injustice over the past year.
Young people at the center of urban violence are now more vulnerable than ever to increasing poverty, trauma, and isolation. Roca, as an essential service, has not stopped operating at full capacity during this pandemic, and has not stopped working for racial justice.
In addition to enhancing virtual programming methods and increasing contact with young people, we continue to deliver street outreach and provide food and monetary support (using strict social distancing guidelines) for 1,000 young people, and often their children, in 21 communities across Massachusetts and in Baltimore, Maryland.
Due to the significant impact of this crisis, we expect our participants to need urgent support at least through the end of 2021.
Much-needed donations will be applied to support the following:
- Deliveries of fresh and shelf-stable food, baby care supplies, clothing, gift cards, hygiene products, and books, toys, and games for children to young men, young women, and their children at an estimated running cost of $25,000 per month.
- Stabilizing housing and health for our young people, including providing rent and utility support, and other emergency costs, at an estimated total cost of $12,500 per month.
Thank you for your faith in and commitment to Roca’s young people in these challenging times.
