“It’s all about positivity,” Alejandro says. That’s his life motto. But he wasn’t always this positive. A little over a year ago, he caught a case and got in some trouble. It was only when his counselor recommended Roca that Alejandro began to set his sights to getting back on track: working, going to school, and being a positive example.
Alejandro’s tip for staying positive? CBT. “It helps me think before I act,” he says. “It taught me how to stay calm and positive in tough situations. It just all makes sense. It helps you to stop, realize who you are, and what you have in front of you.” Alejandro says he uses CBT every day; whether it’s at work, at home, or anywhere else. “CBT has given me the skills to take a step back and evaluate how to handle any situation in the best way possible.”
After a few setbacks, Alejandro is back on the right path. He talks with his youth worker, Sean, multiple times a week. Whether it’s for lunch, or a just a quick phone call, Alejandro knows Sean is there for him. “No matter what I need, Sean is there. He’s always bringing positivity to my life.”
Alejandro’s new job as a delivery driver in Boston is another reason for positivity. He’s even thinking about going back to school for his degree soon. “My case was just a minor setback,” he says. “Now I’m ready for a major comeback.”
But mostly, Alejandro is focused on one thing: remaining positive – especially for his little brother. “Roca has helped me to grow trust again. Now that I’m back on track, my little brother has started to look up to me. I’m focused on the long term now.”
