Hartford police debut 8-hour training to ‘rewire’ officers’ emotions, reduce confrontations
Are you a “top brain” or “bottom brain” person? Most of us are bottom brainers, which means that the fight, flight, or freeze survival instincts kick in during a stressful situation. But police and correction officers are not most people, and the bottom brain instinct is not necessarily a good thing in their world of daily high levels of stress and confrontation. That’s why the Hartford Police Department has introduced a new training program aimed at helping its officers make the best “top brain” decisions in those situations.
